Why Loving Yourself Should Be #1

Sometimes, it’s hard to be your own biggest fan. You know yourself better than anyone else, so the shortcomings that might not event noticed by others are always glaring at you. You spend more time with yourself than anyone else, so the self-deprecating humor stops being funny when it never stops. We all have that little voice inside our head that tells us we’re trying too hard or dreaming too big. That little voice wants us to settle, to be comfortable, to give up. “He’ll never date you.” “That dress makes you look like a cow.” “Don’t show your face without make-up.” This voice has been slowly taking over our lives since middle school, or earlier, and now it’s totally in control.

We have to stop it.
And how do we do that, you might ask? Self love.
Set reminders on your phone to randomly pop up with a quote that empowers you. A few of my favorites are:
“It might be that to surrender to happiness was to accept defeat, but it was a defeat better than many victories.” –Of Human Bondage
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning to sail my ship.” –Little Women
“They gave me their worst, I gave them my best, and that’s all I can do.” -Selena Gomez
“I’ve always loved the idea of not being what people expect me to be.” -Dita Von Teese

Take selfies anytime you feel beautiful. You don’t have to post every one, but why not? Throw on a cute filter and an inspirational quote, and feel those good vibes.

Make time for yourself. If you’re overworked or overwhelmed, take a step back. Take a nap, meditate, read a book, go to your favorite coffee shop. Anything that helps you find your own personal zen. Nothing is worth loosing your sanity. Nothing.

Cut out toxic people. That boy who texts you exclusively between 12-4 AM? Bye. That girl who seems to only be able to give out back-handed compliments? See ya later. That instagram account you follow only to screenshot (highly edited and staged) pics and send your friends with the caption “#goals”? unfollow. Any person in your life who makes you feel inferior or makes you question your worth? Get rid of them.

LOVE YOURSELF, SISTERS.
